Moving a dog from the UAE to United Kingdom (Great Britain)

UAE is a listed country: no rabies blood test. Plan on about 25 days if you're starting from scratch, or 10 if your dog is already microchipped and rabies-vaccinated.

  1. Do first

    Microchip

    Must be implanted before the rabies vaccination.

  2. At least 21 days before

    Rabies vaccination

    Travel at least 21 full days after the first vaccination (or last of the primary course).

  3. 1–10 days before

    Great Britain pet health certificate

    Signed, stamped and dated by an official veterinarian. Pet must enter GB within 10 days of issue.

  4. 1–5 days before

    Tapeworm treatment (dogs)

    Given by a vet no less than 24 hours and no more than 5 days before arrival.

  5. Before travel

    Non-commercial declaration

    Required if not selling or transferring ownership.

  6. Before travel

    Approved route

    Must travel on an approved route (cargo into an approved GB airport).

  7. Before travel

    Banned breeds check

    Banned breeds cannot enter without a valid Certificate of Exemption.

  8. 1–5 days before

    MOCCAE export permit + health certificate UAE side · to confirm

    Apply through the MOCCAE portal/app once destination documents are ready. Secondary sources report the permit is issued in 24–48h and the health certificate 24–72h before departure.
