Moving a dog from the UAE to Australia

UAE is an approved Group 3 country (rabies present but controlled). Plan on about 210 days if you're starting from scratch, or 185 if your dog is already microchipped and rabies-vaccinated.

  1. Before travel

    Microchip

Microchip number must appear on the permit, every lab report, the RNATT declaration and the health certificate.

  2. Before travel

Identity check by government vet (optional, recommended)

Done before the RNATT blood draw; cuts minimum quarantine from 30 to 10 days.

  3. Before travel

    Rabies vaccination

Must be current at RNATT and export.

  4. 180–365 days before

    RNATT blood test

Export at least 180 days after the date the sample arrives at the lab; RNATT valid 12 months from collection.

  5. Before travel

    Import permit (BICON)

Apply after the RNATT declaration is in place; book Mickleham quarantine.

  6. 2–45 days before

    Pre-export tests

Leishmania (all dogs), Brucella canis (entire dogs), Ehrlichia canis within 45 days of export, per DAFF-negotiated certificates (UAE certificate to confirm).

  7. Before travel

    Post-arrival quarantine

Mickleham, Victoria: minimum 10 days with identity check, 30 days without.

  8. 1–5 days before

MOCCAE export permit + health certificate UAE side · to confirm

Apply through the MOCCAE portal/app once destination documents are ready. Secondary sources report the permit is issued in 24–48h and the health certificate 24–72h before departure.
